Public Stamp Displays

MOST NATIONS IN EUROPE HAVE impressive exhibits and museums for stamps and postal history, more impressive than any in the United States. There are, however, quite a few collections on display and the list fortunately is growing, so collectors in this country will have increasingly greater opportunities to see wonderful material. Among the more important displays currently available are:

National Museum (Smithsonian), Washington, D.C. A collection of stamps of the world, plus original photographs used for U.S. designs.

Post Office Department, Washington, D.C. A display room with U.S. and foreign stamps in display racks and albums.

National Philatelic Museum (Temple University), Philadelphia, Pa. A changing display, usually of a month's duration, arranged by governments or groups.

Franklin Institute, Philadelphia. The Harry A. Jefferys collection of United States stamps.

New York Public Library, Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. The Miller collection.

General Post Office, Brooklyn, N.Y. A changing display in a special stamp room.

Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. A postal history exhibit which was gathered and displayed by the late Rev. William Tower.

The Collectors Club, 22 East 35th St., N.Y. There are usually a number of wall frames with selected material from the club's own properties, or from members, on display.

Brown University, Providence, R.I. An exceptional collection is on display.

Evansville Museum, Evansville, Ind. A small general display which is being enlarged.

Chicago Historical Society, Chicago, Ill. Material donated by Dr. C. W. Herman and others.

Milwaukee Public Museum, Milwaukee, Wisc. A general collection.

Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio. Historical documents, many with stamp varieties.

Masonic Shrine, Tappan, N.Y. Masons on stamps.

Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brooklyn Ave. and Park Place, Brooklyn. The museum owns an excellent collection of revenues, but it is not always on display.

Brandies University, Waltham, Mass. This University has received the Joseph B. Abrams collection. Whether it will be displayed or not is undetermined at this time, though it is supposed to be.
